So by now, you’ve probably asked yourself what’s up with that line “This is my stage”, right? Well, that goes all the way back to being four years old. I always wanted my long hair to be braided on the sides of my head like Princess Leia. Instead, my mother gave me dorky pig tails or a boring pony tail. My mother had a unique approach to hair styling - she always pulled my hair back so tight that I literally couldn’t move my eyebrows for about 4 hours. I’m pretty sure that this premature face lift caused hallucinations which led to me producing my own “soap commercials” in the bath tub (I really liked making the Tone and Caress commercials … lol).
Fast forward to high school … of course, someone with my creative imagination would be in the drama and speech program! I was surely on my way to being discovered as I had won numerous awards and my name was on the list of every college in attendance for my audition. Well, until the fear of growing up and being on my own for the first time occurred to me. More than a decade later, I kick myself for it, but now I remember the words of a competition judge during a critique, “No matter who/what you are in life, everyone is an actor/actress playing a part.” How very true.
